A forgetful Reef Cruise

on September 20, 2011

We did the Great Barrier Reef outer reef tour in Cairns. The 1st stop was the Fitzroy Island where by you had about two hrs to explore. Not adequate time really given that there were plenty of people about. Don’t neglect to carry insect repellant considering there are lots of mosquitos about. Snorkelling around the beach area was okay, although we’ve seen better.

Then it’s off to the outer reef (Moore Reef) and their pontoon. As other individuals have reported, it’s quite modest for the multitude of tourists on the boat. The so named underwater viewing area was a disappointment – I have seen better in the aquariums in Melbourne or Perth . They have not got around to cleansing the windows so it was very hard to see anything at all through the windows. My spouse said the same issue about their glass bottom boat tour which I didn’t get to do on the grounds that we just simply ran out of time.

If there’s anything that you should do, it’s the Scuba-doo, specifically if you are not the best swimmer. It’s the best way to enjoy the reef. We actually saw a turtle and 1 of the crew handed us a star fish which my son loved. It’s a little overpriced in spite of this I feel it is worth it.

By the time the dive was finished, I had just adequate time to eat and change (if my spouse had not set aside a plate for me, there was nothing left to eat) – hence, I missed the semi-sub trip. If it wasn’t for the scuba-doo, this would have been a particularly ordinary Cairns Tour .
